We have some exciting news - we hope you are as pleased as we are about this! Here is the press release that has been issued:
The Georgian Hotel, on Haslemere’s High Street, is set for a £2 million facelift and refurbishment, if plans are approved by Waverley Council.
Lannister House, the hotel owner, has also announced that if the plans get the go-ahead, the hotel will be managed by Cirrus who oversee a successful network of 25 independently run boutique inns set in the countryside and traditional village locations around the UK. Their collection includes the Jack Russell of the Faccombe Estate, The Museum Inn in Farnham, Dorset, The Mayflower at Lymington, and locally, The White Horse Inn in Chilgrove, which recently won the National Pub of the Year award.
Alexander Pearse, Chief Executive from Cirrus, said
“We are massively excited about coming to Haslemere and transforming the Georgian Hotel into a boutique hotel with 12 stylish, individually designed rooms and a good food and drink offer.
We will be looking to open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and supper to make us an all-day experience. Being a local myself, as well as a professional in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, I know how much demand there is for a quality hotel that is nestled in this beautiful town in the South Downs yet just 50 minutes from London, Heathrow and Gatwick.
We pride ourselves on championing the British countryside and local produce. The South Downs exemplifies all of this and there could not be a finer geographical choice to help promote the beauty of this area.”
The rejuvenated hotel will add an estimated £500,000 a year into the local economy as Cirrus insists on using local suppliers - within a 30-mile radius of Haslemere. Several of their existing local suppliers in the area are set to benefit.
Gareth Maxwell, Sales and Export manager from Hattingley Valley Wines based near Alresford in Hampshire, said:
“We started working with Cirrus Inns a few months ago as they agreed to list our English sparkling wines. I was very impressed with the effort, care andprofessionalism that they put into choosing us.... At no point did they just try and get the best price, they were much more interested in how we could engage with their customers to add to their experience at the Cirrus sites.”
Christopher and Celia Beaumont-Hutchings, Founders of Chilgrove in Chichester, added:
“From upper-management right through to front-line staff, we have found Cirrus to have a deep and genuine interest in using local produce and forging meaningful relationships with local suppliers such as ourselves.”
Lannister House which is spearheaded by a Haslemere-based entrepreneur and backed by five local families, acquired the hotel from administrators in 2017. Since then, they have re- opened the hotel and put in place a new business plan to reinvigorate the hotel.
The plan submitted to Waverley Borough Council includes replacing the modern building to the rear of the hotel with 16 apartments and three mews houses, which will generate £2 million to invest in upgrading and enhancing the listed hotel on the High Street.
Commenting, Richard Angel, Chief Executive, Lannister House said:
“It has always been part of our plan to find a hotel operator with a track record of running and managing high quality, boutique hotels. With Cirrus, we have landed the best in the business.
“The operation and management of the hotel will be transferred to Cirrus, as will all our staff, who will be retained. As a local resident, I am passionate about preserving this historic building as a thriving hotel in the heart of the community and making this a Haslemere success story.
To secure its future for the long term, the hotel needs significant investment and this plan will generate the £2 million required to refurbish the listed building. It will transform it into a desirable boutique hotel, attracting visitors to Haslemere and providing a high-quality facility for local people.”
